Before you book
Worth reading the house rules and safety notes first — the roof, the hot tub and the stairs are worth a thought if you are bringing small children.
How booking works
By enquiry for now. A direct booking system is being set up; until it is live, a person reads and answers every message.
Rates
Quoted on enquiry, by season and length of stay. How a quote is put together — and why every stay is quoted rather than priced from a card.
Minimum stay
Two nights, and three over long weekends and holidays. Check-in from 4 PM, check-out by 11 AM.
Response time
Usually the same day. A person reads every enquiry and replies with availability and a full quote.

Booking direct, and why it is worth doing.

You can book this vacation rental in Ontario directly with us instead of through Airbnb or another platform. Cottage rental direct from the owner is the alternative, and it means no platform service fee on top of the rate, a quote built around your actual dates and group instead of a calendar price, and a conversation with somebody who has been in the house. Automated direct booking is not live on this site yet, so an enquiry is how it works: send the dates, get a person.

It also means you are trusting a website instead of an intermediary, which is a fair thing to be careful about. Everything we can put behind that is on the about page — who is behind the house, what happens after you send an enquiry, and what we will and will not claim about the property.

Before you write

Four things that get you a useful first reply.

  1. Your dates, and how firm they are

Exact dates if you have them. If they can move, say so and by how much — a Sunday-to-Thursday that could shift a week is a different conversation from a fixed Christmas week, and it is usually a cheaper one.
  2. How many people, and who they are

Not just a number. Four couples, two families with small children, and ten colleagues are three different bookings in the same house, and they need different answers about the wing that locks off, the stairs and the roof.
  3. Anything that would ruin it if it were wrong

Somebody who cannot manage stairs, a birthday you are building the trip around, a dog, a working day in the middle of it. Ask early. Some of these have answers we are still confirming, and the honest ones are worth having before you commit.
  4. One specific question about the house

Whatever you could not settle from the house page or the photographs. It gets answered specifically, and it tells us what actually matters to you, which shapes the rest of the reply.

Where you are coming to

The street address and arrival notes come with your confirmation. The map shows where the house is, and the links open directions in your own map app.

Questions about booking

Can I book instantly, or is it always an enquiry?

It is an enquiry for now. A direct booking system is being set up; until it is live, every message is read and answered by a person. The trade is a slower yes in exchange for a quote built around your actual group rather than a calendar price.

Does it cost anything to enquire?

No. No deposit, no hold, no card details, and no obligation of any kind. The terms for your dates are put in writing before any money moves, and they do not change afterwards.

How quickly will I hear back?

We aim to reply the same day. We have not published a guaranteed response time because there is no record to base one on yet — when there is, it will go on this page as a number rather than a promise.

What is actually in the quote?

The nightly or weekly rate, the cleaning fee, the taxes, any deposit, and the cancellation terms for those specific dates — all in one message. Nothing is added later. If the dates are gone we say so rather than proposing something you did not ask about.

Is it cheaper to book direct than through a platform?

There is no platform service fee on top of the rate, which on a house of this size is not a small number. What we will not claim is a fixed percentage saving, because that depends on the platform and the dates, and a made-up figure is worse than none.

Is it safe to book directly with a website?

It is a fair thing to be careful about, and the honest answer is to check who you are dealing with before you pay anybody. The about page names who owns and manages the house, the phone number reaches a person, and nothing is owed until terms are agreed in writing. If anything about a booking process makes you uneasy, ask about it — including here.

Can I come and see it first?

Ask. Between bookings it is sometimes possible, and for a longer stay or a corporate booking it is a reasonable thing to want. If it cannot be arranged we will film or photograph whatever you wanted to see.

You cannot book online yet, because there is no live calendar to book against. Booking a luxury house for ten tends to be a conversation anyway — the dates, who is coming, and what the house has to do for you. What you get in exchange is a private booking made directly with the owner, with no platform in the middle and nobody else’s terms layered on top.
